The Challenge
Rahel* came to our office seeking assistance with a long-running humanitarian (split family) application for her four children, who remained overseas in vulnerable and unstable conditions.
Having fled Eritrea as a refugee, Rahel had been separated from her children for years. Her husband had been arbitrarily imprisoned, and the children, aged between 9 and 16, were left without parental care in precarious circumstances.
After being resettled in Australia, Rahel was eventually able to re-establish contact with her children. However, reuniting her family required navigating a complex and uncertain migration pathway across multiple jurisdictions and family relationships.

- Assisted Rahel and her youngest son to obtain Australian citizenship by conferral in December 2025
- Supported her reconnection with her husband and are now assisting with his partner visa application
